Super bowl XLVI: A Legendary Rematch infographic is a great tool for brushing up on important statistics ahead of the 2012 Super bowl. This will be the first Super Bowl to be played in Indianapolis, and the first time in the history of the game it will be played in consecutive years in a retractable roof stadium.
This will also be only the fourth time that the Super Bowl is played in a cold-weather city, after Detroit's hosting of XVI and XL as well as Minneapolis's hosting of XXVI. Downtown Indianapolis, the home of Lucas Oil Stadium, will feature an outdoor Super Bowl Village and other programs at the Indiana Convention Center.
The New England Patriots and the New York Giants faced off at the Super bowl four years ago, with the Giants taking it 17-14. This year’s Super bowl XLVI will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana and is sure to be a rematch for the history books.
Today's Super Bowl XLVI marks the first time quarterbacks who have each won Super Bowl MVP trophies -- Tom Brady for New England and Eli Manning for the Giants will oppose each other in a Super Bowl game.
Experts and fans seem solidly behind the Giants, who came together late in the season when their defensive line returned to health and Eli Manning looked like the elite quarterback he claimed to be at the start of the season. Manning guided New York to a handful of fourth-quarter comebacks, including three late in the season when they qualified for the playoffs as NFC East champions with a 9-7 record.
The Patriots just got over the line against the Baltimore Ravens, 23-20, in the AFC Championship final, to secure their place in this year's Super Bowl. To their surprise, the New York Giants upset the San Francsico 49ers, 20-17, at Candlestick Park, to take the NFC Championship and create a dream re-match with their northeastern rivals.
The Patriots finished this season top of the AFC with a 13-3 record, while the Giants went 9-7 to scrape through for a wildcard placing. In 2007-08, New England went 16-0, only to be brought down at the last hurdle by the in-form New York, also a wildcard that time around. It is no surprise that New England goes in only an 8/13 William Hill online favorite to win Super Bowl XLVI, while New York is offering tempting odds of 11/8. William Hill is also taking bets on money line, match spread and total points (10/11 for over 55 points, 10/11 for under 55 points).
The New York Giants and New England Patriots meet Sunday in the 2012 Super Bowl, a game that will add another chapter not only to Giants-Patriots history but to the history of the hard-fought New York-New England sports rivalry. The Super Bowl will take place February 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
